Going Raw – Day Three
Today I was very appreciative of the flavours and beautiful colours of the food I ate. This is a good outcome of my cleanse. The food is so simple, the individuality of each vegetable or fruit stands on it’s own, so I can taste the subtle sweetness of the jicama, or the oily saltiness of the olive and enjoy it for what it offers. My energy level was again not very high today. I am looking forward to that improving soon. I am a little tempted by cooked foods, especially if they are ones I like too, such as the oven sliced potatoes I made for my daughter. Anyway, I just keep saying it is only for a month, then I will do only 50 – 80% raw foods. Here’s what I ate today:
Smoothie made of collard greens, mango and chia (the secret with my not-very-high powered blender is to cut out the tough center stem first, same with kale)
Greek salad with almond feta cheese, mostly from “Raw Food Made Easy”
Jicama fries from last night
Leftover kale, Greek salad
Dates stuffed with Tamari almonds
More dates stuffed with Tamari almonds
Remaining smoothie from breakfast
Before I started this raw diet I had a pile of blood work done, as well as a Organix comprehensive urine test done. I do encourage my patients to get regular physical exams and blood work. The urine test I ordered privately. It makes sense to get testing done when you are feeling unwell, even if the symptoms seem minor.
So far from the urine test I know that my krebs cycle (energy production of the cell), is working normally, but some of the antioxidants are low, my phase 2 detoxification is off (liver), and as well there is bacterial imbalance. (Could be why I have been feeling tired!) Actually, this test even recommended a detox.
I want to repeat this particular test at the end of this month, and so I am not taking any corrective actions other than diet. I am continuing my multivit/min each day, 2,000 IU of vitamin D3 (which I always take) and have added in just one supplement – vitamin B12 since I am not eating any meat. We will see how far a raw food diet can go to improve health, and I will let you know!
