Going Raw – Day 10
Never before have I realized how true the old saying “You are what you eat” is. Today I woke up feeling unwell; I was stiff, cranky and had diarrhea yet again. I ate only fruit until dinner time, since I literally couldn’t stomach the thought of anything else. It is getting pretty extreme when eating one banana will cause me to rush to the bathroom. I was almost ready to throw in the towel and go off this diet altogether. The list of foods I react poorly to now includes all nuts, lemon and possibly orange. When you have to leave these foods out of an already really restricted diet, it gets very hard to figure out what to eat.
Then I ate supper. The change, just like the night before , was almost immediate. Fortunately, this time in a good way. The aches practically disappeared, I felt relaxed and calm and clear headed. Obviously what I ate tonight was what my body could absorb and use. Actually, I am pretty proud of tonight’s supper. It was an invention born out of desperation and it was good enough that my thirteen year old daughter had two helpings. Here’s what I ate today:
Fruit salad – banana, apple, orange with a sprinkle of agave
1/2 cup leftover smoothie from yesterday
Raw Vegan Sushi (begin the day before by soaking and sprouting the buckwheat)
Raw nori sheets
1 cup of sprouted buckwheat
1 tsp sesame oil
2 carrots, peeled and cut into large matchsticks
1 avocado, sliced
2 tsp Balsamic vinegar
Organic gluten-free Tamari sauce
Soak the buckwheat for 15 minutes and then sprout for 24 hours. Put the buckwheat in a bowl and drizzle the sesame oil over. Cut up the carrots, and let them soak in the Balsamic vinegar. Prepare the avocado. Now take out a nori sheet, line up a strip of buckwheat on it, over top place a couple of carrots and some avocado. Carefully roll up the nori, wet along one end to help stick together then slice. Dip in the Tamari sauce and enjoy!
